Katie Hoemann

Assistant professor & Director of EMIC Lab

Dr. Katie Hoemann is an Assistant Professor and the Dale J. Weary Faculty Fellow of Social Psychology at the University of Kansas. She has been fascinated by how people experience and make meaning of the world for as long as she can remember. Katie holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology, Spanish, and Linguistics from Northwestern University, an MA in Cognitive Linguistics from Bangor University, and a PhD in Psychology from Northeastern University, and completed postdoctoral training at the Center for Social and Cultural Psychology at KU Leuven.

Ratna Kandala

Postdoctoral researcher

Dr. Ratna Kandala joined the EMIC lab in November 2024 after obtaining her PhD in Linguistics from IIT Hyderabad. Ratna also holds bachelors and masters degrees in Systems Biology and English Language from the University of Hyderabad. She specializes in natural language syntax and natural language processing (NLP). 

Dasha Yermol

Affiliate researcher

Dasha is a PhD student in the KU Brain, Behavior, and Quantitative Science program. She studies how individual differences (e.g., psychopathology,  personality) and social factors (e.g., context) influence emotion perception and nonverbal synchrony. Dasha holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
